Gospel singer Mandisa ready to take her show on the road.

- Listen to Kent Matthews noon-3 p.m. on Saturdays and Sundays on NGEN radio (99.5 FM Sugar Land, 91.1 Lake Jackson-Galveston or online at ngenradio.com).

Since leaving Season 5 of “American Idol,” Mandisa has been a voice of encouragement and truth to people facing life’s challenges around the world. In that time, she’s sold more than 1 million records and earned both Grammy and Dove awards. Her first full-length remix album, “Get Up: The Remixes,” is available now. I spoke to Mandisa about her favorite artists to work with, the farewell season of “American Idol” and coming to Houston in March.

Q: What are you most looking forward to in 2016?

A: I’ve been on a sabbatical lately, so getting back on the road is something I’m really looking forward to.

Q: There will be a lot of great talent onstage at the KSBJ anniversary concert in Houston. What should we expect at this show?

A: There really is something for everyone. Family Force 5 could not be more different than Phil Wickham, but I think that’s awesome. It’s a night where everyone will find something they like. Anytime you get such a variety of music, but all sharing the same purpose, it’s a great reflection of the body of Christ. We don’t have to look or sound the same, but we all do what we do to lift up the name of Christ.

Q: What message do you want to communicate through your concerts?

A: I feel like the focus of my music is to encourage the body of Christ. If people leave a concert feeling encouraged in their faith, then I know I have done my job. If they had a fun time singing and dancing with me as well, that’s just the cherry on top.

Q: Your career was given a huge boost by your appearance on “American Idol” a few years ago. How do you feel about this being the final season of the show?

A: It’s bittersweet for me, but I think the show has run its course. It really hasn’t been the same the last couple of years. However, there is no other show that has produced the kind of stars that “American Idol” has. As much as I enjoy “The Voice,” you don’t really hear much from the winners after the season is over. I will miss that platform to introduce new artists the way they have.

Q: There are people all over the world who would call themselves a fan of Mandisa, but who are you a fan of ?

A: Beth Moore is the first name that comes to mind. She is an author, speaker and she is from Houston, so I’m sure most of your audience knows who she is. She’s had a big impact on my life, not just through her Bible studies, but I used to travel and sing with her worship team. I learned so many things from her that still apply to my life now. I remember stepping off the stage for my last night with her before I left for Hollywood week on “American Idol,” and I will always remember the things she has taught me.
