Joe Ely plans for Main Street Crossing concert

Life-long Texan and traveling songwriter Joe Ely will perform at Main Street Crossing at 8 p.m. on Feb. 12. Tickets start at $35.

This year finds the Texas legend at 68 and he’s also the official Texas State Musician for 2016, as voted on by the Texas lege, an honor previously bestowed to the likes of Willie Nelson, Lyle Lovett, Billy Gibbons and Sara Hickman.

Songwritin­g duo sets concert

Ed Jurdi and Gordy Quist – members of the Austin group Band of Heathens – will perform a duo show at Main Street Crossing at 8 p.m. on Feb. 23. Tickets start at $35.

Jurdi and Quist are the two original members and main songwriter­s of the hard-rocking southern jam band with Americana tendencies, and both have released solo albums. Their latest effort together as a band is 2013’s Sunday Morning Record, written and recorded following a period of change within the band.

Jerrett Zoch will perform show

Jerrett Zoch and the OSR Band will perform at 10:45 p.m. on Feb. 12 at Big Texas Saloon in Spring. Adult tickets are $8, 18 and up tickets are $15.

The Huntsville-based band just released their new album, Kings & Queens last month. They’ve seen recent success of their single “I’m Done,” a rocking country breakup song that doesn’t hold back the talented guitar playing of the band.

Theater troupe plans comedy

The Old West Melodrama Production­s presents A Golden Fleecing, opening Feb. 12 and continuing on Fridays and Saturdays through Feb. 27, with dining and preshow activities beginning at 7 p.m. at Puffabelly’s in Old Town Spring. Tickets start at $13 for students and seniors and are $15 for adults.

The melodrama comedy a woman who inherits a saloon and who has dreams of turning it into a sarsaparil­la soda fountain and bridal shop. But things get complicate­d when a villian, an accomplice named Miss Twinkle Toes and a gunslingin­g granny enter.

The Old West Melo- drama Production­s community theater troupe performs a run of shows focused solely on the old west every quarter in Old Town Spring. Dinner is available before the performanc­e with a menu of southern comfort food starting at $11.99.

Shakespear­e classic for stage

Repertory Theatre Co. presents William Shakespear­e’s “Romeo and Juliet,” running through Feb. 21. Tickets are $38 and are available for purchase online.

The production of the classic love story, just in time for Valentine’s Day, is directed by Scott Carr. Performanc­es are Thursdays at 7:30 p.m., Fridays and Saturdays at 8 p.m., and Sundays at 3 p.m.

Musical comedy set for showtime

Houston Family Arts Center presents the musical “Forever Plaid,” running through Feb. 21 on the Garza Main Stage. Tickets are $26.

Written and originally directed by Stuart Ross, the musical comedy is about four young singers who die in a car crash on the way to see The Beatles, but that doesn’t keep them from their own final performanc­e. Showtimes are at 7:30 p.m. on Fridays and Saturdays and 3 p.m. on Sundays.

Blues band plays tribute to SRV

Blues band Texas Flood will pay tribute to the legendary Stevie Ray Vaughan at 8 p.m. on Feb. 12 at Concert Pub North. Tickets start at $12.

The band is from north Texas and features Hungarian guitarist and vocalist Tommy Katona, who began listening to Vaughan when he was four. The band performs this month in Dallas, Houston and Baton Rouge.

Symphony North of Houston presents a free concert at 4 p.m. on Feb. 20 at Northwoods Presbyteri­an Church.
