HARVEY LONGSTREET (H.L.) BRITTON, III, 86, of Bellaire, passed away on February 9, 2016 at Belmont Village Senior Living in Houston, TX. A fourth-generation Texan, he was born in Commerce, TX on May 26, 1929. H.L. graduated from Lamar High School and Rice Institute (Class of 1950) with a BSChE degree. A career in the oil & gas industry, including many years at Tenneco Oil culminatin­g as a Vice President of Planning & Marketing, afforded him the opportunit­y to travel both the U.S and abroad. While working in New York City, H.L. met Mary Clarissa Walton (“Skip”) and they were married on August 26, 1961 before moving back to Houston, TX. He is survived by Skip, his wife of 54 years, son Charles Cutler Britton and his wife Diana Kokernot Britton, and son David Neal Britton. He is also survived by his sister, Joan Britton Berry and her husband James R. Berry and nephew, Richard N. Berry, and nieces, Susan Berry Monnin and Karen Berry Rose and their families; sister-in-law Charlotte K. Walton and nephew, Alexander Cutler Walton, and nieces, Deborah WaltonWohl­gensinger and Christina Walton-Bonnehomme and their families. H.L. was preceded in death by his mother, Emma Lucille Britton, and daughter, Elizabeth MacKinnon Britton. He was initially raised in the First Christian Church of Houston, was active at Central Presbyteri­an Church as an Elder, more recently he was a member of St. Philip Presbyteri­an Church. H.L. served one term as a City of West University Place council member in the late 1980s. He was a kind, devoted and generous husband, father and brother who afforded many opportunit­ies to his family. His calm, thoughtful and intelligen­t demeanor continues to be an example for his family and friends. H.L. enjoyed many interests including traveling, sailing, woodworkin­g and volunteeri­ng. The family would like to thank the staff at Belmont Village West University for their recent thoughtful and compassion­ate care of H.L. A memorial service will be held on Saturday, February 13, 2016 at 11:00 a.m. at St. Philip Presbyteri­an Church, 4807 San Felipe, Houston, TX where The Reverend Dr. John W. Wurster and Mr. Omar Rouchon, will officiate. The family suggests remembranc­es be sent to Amazing Place, 3735 Drexel Drexel, Houston, TX 77027 or to Christian Community Services Center (CCSC), 3224 Mercer, Houston, TX 77027.
