Play premiere to highlight WorldWar II camps
The Texas Repertory Theater will be the stage of the world premier at 8 p.m. on March 18 of “Hair Like the Sun,” a play from a Houston writer based on true experiences inside Japanese American internment camps. Tickets are $38. Local college instructor and playwright Charles B. French wrote the play based on a documentary and book that chronicles the experiences of Ruth Mix, who served as a young nurse’s aide and took witness to the imprisonment of more than 120,000 Japanese Americas during World War II in internment camps. The play runs through April 10.
Performances are at 7:30 p.m. on Thursdays and 8 p.m. on Fridays and Saturdays with three Sunday matinee performances at 3 p.m. on March 20, April 3 and 10. The Texas Repertory Theatre is located at 14243 Stuebner Airline Road in Houston. Learn more at www.texreptheatre.org or call 281-583-7573.
April 6 is the day to go walking
OnApril 6, GreaterLake Houston residents will walk to commemorate the annual American Heart Association’s National WalkingDay.
On National Walking Day, the AHAis encouraging the Greater Lake Houston community to walk and “donate” their minutes walked by posting the minutes on social media using the hashtag #AHALaceUp or posting walking pictures to the Greater Lake Houston Facebook page: www.facebook.com/ahaglh. All minutes posted will count toward a national total goal of 100,000minutes walked. Updates and highlights will be posted all day using the hashtag #AHALaceUp.
The annual family friendly event is sponsored by Memorial Hermann Northeast, The Groves, and Community Credit Union. Scott Brady from Joiner Architects will be returning as Chair of the event.
