Challenger Columbia

Clear Creek ISD’s newest football stadium opened to the public for the first time onMarch10.

Challenger Columbia Stadium has been named after the two NASA’s space shuttles that were destroyed in the 1980s and killed 14 crewmembers.

Several elements commemorating the space shuttle Challenger and Columbia crews are woven into the construction of the stadium and field house. They include large mission medallions at the home and visitor gates and a photo mural tribute in the press box hospitality suite.

The stadium is located a little west of Interstate 45 and near FM528 in League City. Its capacity is 10,000 people, giving the school district two stadiums for football games. Veterans Memorial Stadium is located adjacent to Clear Creek HighSchool.

“I am happy to say that this stadium is not the biggest nor anywhere near the most expensive stadium in the state,” Clear Creek ISD Board President Dr. Laura DuPont said. “I am proud to say that it is the one that is exactly right for CCISD.”

Upcoming events at the stadium include the District 24-6A track and field championships April 11-13 and the Region 3-6A track championships April 2930.
