Honors handed out for 10-6A wrestlers
Jersey Village’s Ruben Salazar and Cypress Falls’ Allissa Maldonado, both seniors, were named the boys and girls wrestlers of the year, respectively, on the recently released AllDistrict 10-6A team.
Maldonado won the 102-pound girls Class 6A championship.
The Region III champion beat Precious Mason in the state semifinals and Amarillo Tascosa’s Mariah Lomas in the final.
Salazar, a regional runnerup at 152, made the state quarterfinals, finishing 42-5.
“This was a great season for wrestling in our community,” Ray Zepeda, Cy-Fair ISD’s associate director of athletics.
“We are very appreciative of all of the hard work that our coaches and athletes put into this season. Their contributions allowed us to host a very successful state tournament and to have a great season.”
