Incorporate latest home-design trends for ‘wow’ factor

- By John Leggett INTEGRATE AGENCY

The start of a new year comes with new changes and new ideas, especially with advancements in building and designing technology and trends. In January, experts in home design gathered for the International NAHB Builders’ Show and discovered a wide variety of new products, technology and home layout advancements. If you are thinking about remodeling this year, consider incorporating these up and coming design trends.

More homeowners desire to transform their home into a luxury resort complete with not only necessary, but also luxury amenities. These remodeling projects involve creating spaces that incorporate more lifestyle products. That could include adding on a spa room complete with gym equipment for working out, and a personal sauna for relaxing post-workout or installing a high-end built-in coffee maker into your kitchen.

It’s not just the homeowners who experience the pampering of having lifestyle products throughout the house — the pets will, too. It’s safe to say that owners love their pets, and it has gotten to the point where some people are requesting builders and remodelers to design rooms or spaces dedicated for pets. These spaces often include animal-friendly sinks and showers, as well as food and water dishes that are low to the ground for easy access. These spaces and products are designed to match the rest of the house seamlessly.

3D walls

As more rooms transform into luxurious lifestyle spaces, expect to see more commercial-style decorations and designs, typically seen in contemporary or modern restaurants, being incorporated into residential spaces. Rather than having a simple painted accent wall, builders and remodelers are incorporating unique wall surfaces, such as 3D wall textures with ripples or a basket weave design to elevate the wow factor of a space. Designers are finding new ways for homes to grab your attention and upgrade the standard accent wall by adding texture in the form of three dimensional designs.

Say goodbye to stainless steel?

Stainless steel is no longer considered an upgraded item in homes because it has become a standard feature that is affordable and widely accessible. In fact, lots of homeowners may start looking to upgrade their stainless-steel appliances to something that will stand out.

Appliance companies have started to release new finishes for appliances, such as stainless black and slate, to offer new luxury options. You can easily transform a kitchen’s overall look by upgrading to new smudge-proof stainless black matte appliances, or even brightly colored oven ranges.

Go bold with a blue or red oven range to stand and let that color define the entire room.
