Agent alum honors West Point; brings military training to real estate practice
Jessica Baker , an agent with Martha Turner Sotheby’s International Realty and West Point alum, recently sponsored a booth at the West Point Founders Day Gala.
The West Point Society of Greater Houston held the event at the Houston Westchase Marriott.
Graduates old and new come together every spring to celebrate the founding of West Point in 1802 as well as the contributions made by those who have sacrificed their life in service to their country.
The guest speaker was Major General John Thompson, who is the Commanding General of the 1st Calvary Division at Fort Hood, as well as a former Commandant of the United States Military Academy at West Point.
Baker is an Academy graduate who served two tours in Iraq as a signal platoon leader and IT operations manager.
She said her training and experience apply well to her real estate practice.
“I face challenges head on, maintain my integrity even when it’s difficult, and know hard work is the only way to accomplish your goals,” she said.
Military life opened her eyes to the world, she added, noting that she and her husband love to travel. Baker has visited Chile, Italy, South Korea, Japan, Russia, Thailand, Turkey and Argentina.
Even with a young daughter, a full slate of real estate client responsibilities, and commitments with her neighborhood homeowners association, Baker looks forward to her next travels.
John Daugherty, Realtors’ Bill Phillips joined industry colleagues on the links on a recent Monday at The Woodlands Country Club Tournament Players Course in support of Texas Children’s Hospital and the Children’s Miracle Network.
The 12th annual Children’s Miracle Network Golf Tournament had particular resonance, as Texas Children’s Hospital is opening an outpatient facility with 72 exam rooms in The Woodlands this year and a full children’s hospital on the same campus in 2017.

Talk about location, location, location. When Demeria Roberts, broker/ owner of Demeria Roberts Realty in northwest Houston, looked to expand to new office space this year, she placed her boutique firm in a former nail salon sharing the building with an upscale designer resale boutique — right across the street from the school both her children will attend next year.
“The traffic and response to our new office have been amazing,” she said.
