Clear Creek ISD water polo teams are headed full speed ahead to the TISCA state championships.

Six local teams have qualified for the 45th annual event, which will be held Friday and Saturday at the Texas A&M Natatorium.

The Clear Springs girls will be on the short list of teams expected to win a state title. The Chargers placed second last year and enter this year’s tournament with a 27-3 record. That includes a 15-2 victory over Clear Falls in the South Region championship game. The Clear Brook girls also qualified for state.

The Clear Brook boys enter the state tournament as South Region champions. The Wolverines defeated Clear Creek, 13-11, in the regional final. The Clear Springs boys also have qualified for state.

Clear Creek ISD teams have a rich tradition for success at the state tournament. A girls team has finished in the top three ever year since 2011. The last girls champion was Clear Creek in 2012. The school district finished first, second and third at the state that year.

Clear Creek’s boys are on a strong run at the state tournament. The Wildcats won the title in 2013 and finished second in 2012 and 2014. Clear Springs at state

Melody Duong and Aava Azad qualified for the Class 6A state tennis tournament last week with a runner-up finish at the Region 3-6A championships.

Duong and Azad won a pair of three-set matches on their way to the final against Clements’ Nikita Pradeep and Sanjna Tripathy. The Clements team, which has been to state two previous times, won the final, 6-1, 6-3. The state tournament is May 16-17 in College Station. Dobie leads qualifiers

Four Dobie athletes qualified for this week’s Region 3-6A track and field championships in League City thanks to their performances at the Area 21-22 meet last week. Justice Henderson advanced in the 100-meter dash (first place) and in the long jump (second place). Jeremy Davis qualified in the 110 hurdles and in the discus. Camille Singleton won the 200 dash. LaDayijah Cook qualified in the high jump.

Four other Pasadena ISD athletes also qualified. Pasadena’s Enoch Ramirez advanced in the 1,600 and 3,200. Memorial’s Meleah Williams advanced in the high jump. Memorial’s Alejandro Martinez qualified in the 800 run. South Houston’s Marques Postel qualified in the pole vault. Regional meet

Clear Creek ISD’s brand new Challenger Columbia Stadium will be the site for the Region 3-6A track and field championships Friday and Saturday.

The stadium opened on March 10 and has since hosted several events, including the District 24-6A track meet two weeks ago. Eagles at regionals

One week after winning a district title, Dawson’s girls have won an area championship. Now the Lady Eagles are headed to the regional meet en masse.

Seven Eagles qualified for the regional meet to highlight the Lady Eagles’ victory at the area meet that combined teams from District 21-6A and 22-6A. Dawson scored 126 points to edge North Shore, which scored 120. Pearland scored 79 in third.

The top four finishers in each event advance to the Region 3-6A meet at Clear Creek ISD’s Challenger-Columbia Stadium Friday and Saturday.

Of the Lady Eagles’ seven regional qualifiers, five advanced in at least two events. Nia Smith qualified in three. She will compete in both hurdles events and the long jump.
