Children invited to celebrate Día del Niño
The Children’s Museum of Houston is hosting its 14th annual Children’s Day celebration April 30.
Called Día del Niño, or Day of the Child, the museum’s event will emphasize the importance of bilingual literacy among children. The day includes special events and activities, including a meet and greet with the Consulate General of Mexico. Free books and other goodies, such as snacks from Bimbo, also will be given away.
Also, traditional music of Mexico will be performed at noon in the museum’s alcove. Children also are invited to take part in a crumpled paper art project, a writing and drawing exercise, a mask making program and other activities.
The Children’s Day celebration will take place from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. at the museum, located at 1500 Binz St.
General admission is $12 per person and $11 for those 65 years old and older or for those who are active duty military personnel. Children younger than 1 years old and museum members receive free admission.

The event is held in conjunction with Universal Children’s Day, which honors children on various days in places around the world. In Mexico, it is celebrated on April 30 and is known as “El día del niño.” The observation was established by the general assembly of the United Nations in December 1954. The UN recommended the observance be a day of activity devoted to promoting fraternity among children worldwide, according to the UN’s website.
