Ouisie’s Table is celebrating 43 years. Beginning May 10, Tuesdays and Wednesdays through June 8, the restaurant will have specials from 1973 and 1995 for the original prices.
The owners and staff of Ouisie’s Table are celebrating the restaurant’s 43rd year in business by serving up a few dishes from its 1973 and 1995 menus at their original prices.
Located in River Oaks at 3939 San Felipe St., owner Elouise Jones first opened the restaurant on Sunset Boulevard near Rice Village. Twenty-two years later, Jones relocated the business to its San Felipe location.
Beginning May 10 and running every Tuesday and Wednesday through June 8, the restaurant will add specials to its blackboard taken from its original 1973 and 1995 menus and sold for the original prices. Former menu staples such as chicken a la Juanita, tequila crawfish with angel hair pasta, marinated mushrooms and crab bisque will be among the featured specials. Customers, for example, will be able to order lemon and garlic soup for $3.50. Horseradish crusted salmon with vodka orange sauce will cost $5.95 and curry lamb chops will cost $8.95.
Guests of the restaurant also will find handwritten menus Jones created for her restaurant daily, photos of her throughout the years and additional memorabilia, according to a news release. The restaurant’s original Sunset Boulevard location was popular and even gained the attention of famed cook Julia Child, who once stopped by for a visit.
Ouisie’s Table also gained national media attention after a regular’s tip to his favorite waitperson was a retired racehorse. Former President George Bush and wife Barbara are among the restaurant’s regular customers. Most recently, a reality television show spent more than half a day shooting footage of a dining scene, according to the news release.
