Boehner says he wouldn’t vote for ‘Lucifer in the flesh’ Cruz

-

Former House Speaker John Boehner told a crowd at Stanford University that he would vote for Donald Trump for president if he’s the GOP nominee, but not for Sen. Ted Cruz.

“Lucifer in the flesh,” Boehner said of the Texan, according to the Stanford Daily, a student newspaper. “I have Democrat friends and Republican friends. I get along with almost everyone, but I have never worked with a more miserable son of a b---- in my life.”

Cruz could easily seize on the criticism from Boehner, who is precisely the kind of Republican deal maker against whom the Texas senator has tried to run his campaign.

The event, which according to the newspaper was not being broadcast, also featured Boehner, an Ohio Republican known for being a particularly avid golfer, saying that he has hit the links with Trump, the businessman who is the Republican presidential front-runner, with whom he said he was “texting buddies.”

Boehner has previously endorsed the third candidate remaining in the 2016 Republican presidential field, Ohio Gov. John Kasich. He made that endorsement in March, ahead of the Ohio primary.

Cruz is campaigning ahead of Indiana’s Republican presidential primary on Tuesday and he took issue with the barb.

Boehner let his “inner Trump come out,” he said.

Cruz says he never actually worked with Boehner, and thathe’d be surprised if the two politicians ever exchanged more than 50 words.

Cruz has this message for voters: “When John Boehner calls me Lucifer, he’s not directing that at me. He’s directing that at you.”
