Ortiz, Red Sox beat Yankees

BOSTON — David Ortiz hit a tiebreakin­g two-run homer off Dellin Betances in the eighth inning, and the Boston Red Sox rallied for a 4-2 win over the New York Yankees on Friday night in the first of 19 meetings between the longtime rivals.

Jackie Bradley Jr. had a two-run double for Boston, which won for the fifth time in six games.

Alex Rodriguez moved into 20th place on the all-time hits list with a solo homer for the Yankees, who lost for the 11th time in 15 games.

A METS 13, GIANTS 1: Yoenis Cespedes and New York broke loose for a team-record 12 runs in the third inning, rolling to its seventh straight victory with a blowout of visiting San Francisco. Cespedes set a club mark with six RBIs in the inning, connecting for a two-run single off starter Jake Peavy and a grand slam off reliever Mike Broadway that capped the outburst.

MARLINS 6, BREWERS 3: Miami lefthander Adam Conley threw no-hit ball for 72⁄ innings before being pulled by manager Don Mattingly after 116 pitches, and the Marlins’ bullpen wound up holding off host Milwaukee.

A NATIONALS 5, CARDINALS 4: Stephen Strasburg struck out nine, including seven of eight in one stretch, and Washington got home runs from Michael Taylor and Danny Espinosa in a victory at St. Louis.

CUBS 6, BRAVES 1: Matt Szczur hit his first career grand slam during a five-run eighth inning, and Chicago broke away from Atlanta for a win at Wrigley Field.

BLUE JAYS 6, RAYS 1: Michael Saunders hit two home runs and Aaron Sanchez pitched seven shutout innings for Toronto in a victory at Tampa Bay.

RANGERS 4, ANGELS 2: Ian Desmond continued his surge with two hits, including the go-ahead double in a three-run sixth inning, and host Texas beat the Los Angeles.

ORIOLES 6, WHITE SOX 3: Nolan Reimold hit a tiebreakin­g three-run homer in the seventh inning, leading Baltimore to a victory over visiting Chicago.

PHILLIES 4, INDIANS 3: Ryan Howard led off the 11th inning with a home run, leading host Philadelph­ia to a walkoff victory over Cleveland in interleagu­e action.

TIGERS 9, TWINS 2: Detroit’s Michael Fulmer allowed two runs in five innings to win his major league debut.

PIRATES 4, REDS 1: Juan Nicasio struck out eight in seven scoreless innings, and host Pittsburgh beat Cincinnati.
