Butner appears to be good fit with powerhouse KB Racing

- Rod Evans

Pro Stock racer Bo Butner has had an impressive start to his first full season in the class, entering the weekend third in points.

Butner, 41, excelled in various sportsman classes before joining the KB Racing team that includes four-time Pro Stock champion Greg Anderson and two-time champ and current points leader Jason Line, who defeated Butner in the semifinals.

Despite being the newbie on the team, Butner concedes nothing on the track.

“I wouldn’t leave my house if I didn’t think I was winning that weekend,” Butner said. “These guys work hard. Greg is a testing machine. He’d make 15 runs in a day if you’d let him. You’ll never see anyone work like that guy. I’m definitely fortunate to get with this team.”

Texas racers have tough day

The rough start to the season for Houston native Erica Enders-Stevens, the two-time defending Pro Stock champion, continued Sunday with a loss to Chris McGaha in the first round of final eliminations. Enders-Stevens qualified sixth.

Top Fuel driver Troy Buff, who is from Spring, lost in the first round to No. 6 qualifier Shawn Langdon. Buff qualified 11th.

Odds and ends

Legendary Top Fuel racer Shirley Muldowney was in attendance throughout the weekend in support of her Shirley’s Kid nonprofit organization. Pro Stock driver Erica Enders-Stevens’ Dodge Dart sported signage for the charity that seeks to help disadvantaged children. This weekend’s promotion with Enders-Stevens and Elite Motorsports was made possible through a contribution from Lupe Tortilla Mexican Restaurants, which has several locations in the Houston area. … After a weekend filled with ominous rain forecasts, a brief shower dampened the Baytown area between the second and third rounds of eliminations and caused a delay of about an hour. Cooler temperatures also prevailed after the warm, humid conditions that confounded the racing teams during Saturday’s qualifying sessions.
