signed a three-year contract. Canetti said he and Coyle reached a confidential settlement.

A native of Glasgow, Scotland, Coyle went 14-21-11 in 46 games as Dynamo boss. He had come under fire this season with the team losing all six of its games away from home, bringing its road record under Coyle to 2-165. The Dynamo (3-7-2) are in last place in the Western Conference.

Canetti said that although the record was not what the club wanted, Coyle brought plenty of positive things to the Dynamo.

“It’s really a shame that things didn’t work out better,” Canetti said. “He poured his heart and soul into this thing. He knows what he’s doing. We’ll never be able to pinpoint why it didn’t work.”

Coyle met with the players Wednesday night. Goalkeeper Joe Willis said the news came out of the blue.

“I think there was a little bit of shock,” Willis said. “When Owen spoke with us and explained the situation, I understood. It’s never easy coming abroad and leaving your family back home. It was a difficult situation for him.”

Assistant coaches Wade Barrett and Paul Rogers and sports performance director Paul Caffrey will lead the team Saturday at Vancouver. Assistant coach Sandy Stewart also elected to leave the club.

Canetti said the three remaining coaches will be told to manage the team as they wish.

The Dynamo’s front office will spend the next few days reviewing coaching options and hopes to have a plan in place by the end of the weekend. Canetti said that at the very least, an interim coach will be named.

“I don’t think we’re in a position where on Monday and Tuesday we’re going to name a long-term solution,” Canetti said. “Coaching searches are intense and deep. That (interim coach) will probably have a good opportunity to have that tag removed.”
