Market Street concert will honor cancer survivors
The University of Texas MD Anderson Cancer Center in The Woodlands will honor cancer survivorship during the Spring Concert Series on June 2 from 6 to 8:30 p.m. at Market Street. Eagles cover band Already Gone will perform during the Survivorship Night event.
The event is part of the organization’s annual Survivorship Week, which honors those who are living with, through and beyond cancer. During the concert, the organization will light the Central Park lawn purple and green in recognition of local survivors.
An interactive photo booth will roam the crowd during the event and physicians and staff from MD Anderson in The Woodlands will answer questions, share information, offer giveaways and distribute educational materials.

Free concerts continue in park
A free concert series continues in Market Street starting at 6 p.m. every Thursday through June 9 in the middle of the shopping district’s Central Park. On May 26, Moodafaruka will perform world fusion music while covering artists ranging from the Gypsy Kings to Johnny Cash.
Music fans are encouraged to bring blankets and lawn chairs, or enjoy the music from the patios at Jasper’s, Cru Wine Bar, Tommy Bahama Tropical Café, Uni Sushi, 1252 Tapas Bar or other Market Street establishments.

Lunch will honor volunteer women
The annual Women of Distinction luncheon will be at 10:30 a.m. on May 27 at The Woodlands Waterway Marriott Hotel and Convention Center. The event honors local volunteers and is orchestrated by the Montgomery County Women’s Council of Organizations, a group that educates, promotes and supports women who give back.
The theme is “With Giving Hearts and Helping Hands” and the event includes a silent auction and keynote speaker Suzie Humphreys, a motivational speaker who lives in Fredericksburg. Also during the event is the announcement of this year’s Women of Distinction.

Memorial Day events are set
Memorial Day will be celebrated at Town Green Park on May 28-29 from 6 to 9 p.m. each evening with a festival that will end with fireworks set to a patriotic soundtrack. The weekend event honors military service men and women who lost their lives while serving America.
The event is presented by Wells Fargo and sponsored by America’s ER and The Woodlands Development Co. It is produced by The Woodlands Township Parks and Recreation Department. The event features live music from Leslie Krafka, Breakfast at Tiffany’s, the Buck Yeager Band and Big Slick.

Reckless Kelly ready for show
Reckless Kelly with opener Folk Family Revival will perform at 8 p.m. on May 28 at the Crighton Theatre as part of The Sounds of Texas Music Series. Tickets are $59.
The band’s most recent album, 2013’s “Long Night Moon,” was its fourth effort in a row to break the top 25 on the U.S. country charts. The Austin band has a large regional following and is led by brothers Willy and Cody Braun. Openers Folk Family Revival, from Magnolia, also are led by brothers Mason, Barrett and Lincoln Lankford.

Aaron Tippin headlines show
Aaron Tippin headlines the fourth annual Memorial Day Classic at Dosey Doe The Big Barn at 7:30 p.m. on May 30. Tickets start at $105 and include dinner served from 5 to 6:30 p.m.
Scooter Brown Band, Josh Fuller Band and Heather Rayleen will also perform during an event that benefits Camp Base 40, Lone Survivor Foundation and PGA-Southern Texas Section Foundation. Silent and live auctions will also be featured during the event.

Jimmy Buffett set for annual show
Jimmy Buffett and the Coral Reefer Band will perform at 8 p.m. on June 4 at the Cynthia Woods Mitchell Pavilion. Lawn tickets are $46.
Since his musical career started in the mid 1970s, Jimmy Buffett has been on tour. The Key West resident has breezed through The Woodlands many times before – this year’s tour is called the “I Don’t Know” tour. The successful musician is also savvy at business (restaurant chains named after his songs) and writing (he penned the New York Times bestseller “A Pirate Looks at 50”).

Pam Tillis will play in Conroe
Country performer Pam Tillis will perform at 7 p.m. on June 4 at the Crighton Theatre. Tickets are $59, and the event benefits the Make-A-Wish Foundation for the Texas Gulf Coast and Louisiana.
Singer-songwriter Becky Hobbs opens.
Tillis was awarded the 1994 Best Female Vocalist award by the Country Music Association and recorded a steady stream of music in the early 1990s including her most successful work, 1994’s “Sweetheart’s Dance.” Her hits include “Mi Vida Loca” and “Shake the Sugar Tree.”
