Jose Reyes received a warm welcome from fans and played errorless defense at a new position in his first minor league game since rejoining the New York Mets.
Reyes, a star shortstop with the Mets from 200311, was hitless in three atbats Sunday for the Class A Brooklyn Cyclones against Hudson Valley. He batted leadoff and was removed after spending six innings at third base.
Reyes, 33, signed a minor league contract with the Mets on Saturday. He was released by the Colorado Rockies after serving a 59-day suspension this season for violating Major League Baseball’s domestic violence policy.
Some fans in the Coney Island crowd wore Mets jerseys with Reyes’ name on the back.
The team promoted Chad Kuhl from Class AAA Indianapolis, and the righthander made his major league debut Sunday night against Clayton Kershaw and the Los Angeles Dodgers.
Kuhl, 23, went 6-2 with a 2.58 ERA in 14 starts at Indianapolis. He has compiled a 33-16 record with a 2.79 ERA in 81 starts over four minor league seasons.
The team also optioned lefthander Kyle Lobstein to Indianapolis and designated righthander Curtis Partch for assignment.
The team placed righthanded reliever Gavin Floyd on the 15-day disabled list with shoulder tightness and then recalled righthander Bo Schultz from Class AAA Buffalo.
Floyd left after facing two batters in the sixth inning of Toronto’s 10-8 win over the White Sox on Saturday and was scheduled to have an MRI on Sunday.
Floyd is 2-4 with a 4.06 ERA in 28 games.
Schultz was 1-1 with a 4.24 ERA in 14 relief appearances in Buffalo.
He appeared in 31 games with the Blue Jays in 2015, going 0-1 with a 3.56 ERA.
