1966

Becomes aware of plans to channelize Buffalo Bayou. She joins the Buffalo Bayou Preservati­on Associatio­n. This group later becomes Bayou Preservati­on Associatio­n as Hershey and others become concerned about other watersheds.

1967

Testifies before Congress about preserving Buffalo Bayou at the invitation of her then-Congressma­n George H.W. Bush.

1971

Congress passes the National Environmen­tal Policy Act and project to straighten Buffalo Bayou is scrapped.

1979

Starts the Park People, a group dedicated to preserving open space in Houston.

1991

Appointed to the Texas Parks and Wildlife Commission.

2013

The Houston Audubon Society and Audubon Texas establishe­s the Terry Hershey Texas Women in Conservati­on Award
