MILESTONES
1966
Becomes aware of plans to channelize Buffalo Bayou. She joins the Buffalo Bayou Preservation Association. This group later becomes Bayou Preservation Association as Hershey and others become concerned about other watersheds.
1967
Testifies before Congress about preserving Buffalo Bayou at the invitation of her then-Congressman George H.W. Bush.
1971
Congress passes the National Environmental Policy Act and project to straighten Buffalo Bayou is scrapped.
1979
Starts the Park People, a group dedicated to preserving open space in Houston.
1991
Appointed to the Texas Parks and Wildlife Commission.
2013
The Houston Audubon Society and Audubon Texas establishes the Terry Hershey Texas Women in Conservation Award
