Exxon Mobil

- Mark D. Petrichuk, Montgomery

Regarding “Exxon Mobil fraud inquiry said to focus more on future than past” (Page B2, Saturday), I used to be the vice president of corporate reserves for a $4 billion oil and gas exploration company, and I can assure you that Exxon Mobil is not committing fraud in estimating the future value of their reserves.

The SEC has recently updated the rules for reserve estimation, and the SEC did not write any rules on how to factor in the end of the world before the end of the reserve life. If this settled science is indeed accurate, then Congress needs to pass laws to prohibit the extraction of hydrocarbons and to ban imports of any hydrocarbons.

I suggest that everyone watch the movie “An Inconvenient Truth” that came out 10 years ago, so everyone can see that the global weather models 10 years ago would have predicted that life on this planet should have been eliminated by catastrophic weather events by now.
