Invasive species

-

Regarding “The skinny on cats” (Page A17, Saturday), the letter referring to cats as a “global invasive species” was a bit of an over-reaction to one couple’s situation. They are not asking the homeowners association for permission to always own 12 cats, just to be allowed to keep the ones they already owned before the rule was enacted. Given the cats’ advanced age, it’s unlikely they’ll be alive for many more years or do much damage to nature in that time.

The letter writer may want to rethink his decision to argue this from a global point of view; the No. 1 most invasive species on our planet, doing by far the most damage to nature, is humankind. Susan Ellis Brittain, Houston
