Average grocery prices decline again in Texas

-

Texas average grocery prices fell for a fourthconsecutive quarter, according to the Texas Farm Bureau’s Grocery Price Watch survey.

Despite slight price increases from spring to summer for some goods included in the index, the overall price for 16 staple grocery items in Texas was $45.78, down 3.6 percent from one year ago. The Grocery Price Watch survey is taken quarterly by 40 shoppers across Texas who randomly price 16 common items.

The Farm Bureau report cited increasing crop yields from better weather and a stronger U.S. dollar — which makes American crops more expensive overseas, lowers sales and boost supplies here — as reasons for the continued drop in grocery prices.
