Define, renew faith as you grow older

-

Faith has many meanings. It’s personal and it’s often spiritual. It also can mean trust or allegiance. In some wedding vows they use the phrase, “I pledge thee my troth,” meaning I have faith in you and in our relationship. There’s a sincere belief that speaks to loyalty, hope, trust and love.

As we age, we often find ways to renew our faith. We may seek study groups or meditation. We find peace of mind in the search and in our renewed enthusiasm for our own faith.

Parkway Place in Houston is a faith-based senior living community on a beautiful, serene, 15-acre campus that helps fulfill many personal and holistic needs of residents.

Programs and services speak to faith and its renewal, to wellness and health, to reenergizing one’s brain and to joy and companionship.

A sense of community and belonging goes a long way in easing loneliness and loss that often comes into someone’s life as they age. Most residents have “been there, done that,” and understand the beauty of moving on and growing regardless of age.

Volunteering both within and outside the community is encouraged. Several men developed a woodworking shop and make wooden toys for children. Others help with various outside activities at local hospitals and food banks. The quilting and card-making groups also work on projects so they can contribute annually to veterans’ organizations and others in need.

Whatever the activity, or time reading in the library or your own spacious apartment, the prospect of sharing with others and learning new things, enjoying a good story, a hearty laugh, and growing in faith are as close as you want them to be.

Parkway Place has a full-time chaplain, serving residents with compassion and dedication.

Mealtime is important, and dining is available 7 a.m. to 7 p.m. daily, with options to enjoy lighter fare in the Bistro. All apartment homes, however, include a newly renovated kitchen.
