Just reinstate recess
Regarding “Schools use fidgety furniture to get students active, focused” (Page A1, Tuesday), so much money and so much energy (at least on the teachers’ part) — all to get children to attend to lessons.
What will middle schools, high schools, colleges and offices of the future have to look like if kids think this is the norm for work?
What if schools just reinstated recess? It is not rocket science that children need to be active, at least sometimes to learn better.
The 30 minutes of free play that has been taken out or pared down costs nothing, and the classroom can once again be a place of interesting lessons with good texts, discussions where ideas are exchanged and engaging activities. Pansy Gee, Houston
