Mary Beth Hunt Mills passed away on Thursday, February 9th, 2017, in Houston, Texas. She was born Sept 27, 1921, in Karnes Co., Texas, in the small rural community of Choate. She was preceded in death by her husband, John Melvin Mills, in November 2011 and brothers, David B. Hunt of Victoria, Texas and J. Truett Hunt of Kenedy, TX. She is survived by her children, John Marshall Mills and wife, Sharon, daughter, Heather Short, and husband, Jim, grandchild­ren, Julie Mills Crocker and husband Michael, James Short and wife, Christie, David Short and wife, Jessica, and seven great-grandchild­ren. Survivors also include nieces and nephews and cousins.

Mary became a follower of Jesus Christ at the age of nine and found joy in serving with others in Christian churches. She, along with her husband and their son, were charter members of Willow Meadows Baptist Church, and served faithfully as a Sunday school teacher for many years. She lived her life with a passion for her faith, family and encouragem­ent to others.

Mary taught for twentythre­e years in the Houston elementary schools, from which she retired in 1978. She treasured friendship­s with family, neighbors, co-workers, fellow church members, University Place residents and staff, and often felt deep gratitude for the blessings they were to her. Memorial service will be held at 10:00 AM on Monday, February 13th, 2017 at Willow Meadows Baptist Church, Houston, TX., with a reception following the service.

Graveside service is to be held at 11:00 AM, on Tuesday, February 14th, 2017, at Choate Cemetery, Hwy. 239 (Rt. 2. Kenedy, Texas, in southern Karnes Co.). Contributi­ons in Mary’s memory may be made to Willow Meadows Baptist Church, 4300 West Bellfort St., Houston, TX 77096.
