LSU upsets No. 23 A&M

BATON ROUGE, La. — Raigyne Moncrief scored 23 points, including five free throws in the final 23 seconds, and LSU upset No. 23 Texas A&M 67-63 on Thursday night.

A layup by Jasmine Lumpkin pulled the Aggies with 62-61 with 1:07 left. The teams swapped turnovers before A&M had to make two fouls to get Moncrief to the line, where she made one of two with 23.4 seconds to play. The Aggies missed twice on the next possession before Moncrief corralled the rebound and made two free throws with seven seconds to go.

Khaalia Hillsman scored for the Aggies with 1.1 second left, after which Moncrief made her last two free throws.

Chloe Jackson added 17 points for LSU, which lost the first matchup 54-52.

Hillsman finished with 24 points on 12-of-17 shooting for the Aggies (19-7, 9-4 Southeaste­rn Conference), who had their four-game winning streak snapped. They shot 55 percent but got to the foul line only four times and had 23 turnovers. It was the 12th consecutiv­e meeting that at least one of the teams was ranked in the Top 25. RICE 66, UTSA 61

Shani Rainey scored 22 points on 10-of-16 shooting, Nicole Iademarco had 16 points, and the Owls defeated the Roadrunner­s in San Antonio.

Wendy Knight added 11 points for Rice (15-9, 6-7 Conference USA), which won its third straight.

Tesha Smith led UTSA (11-13, 7-6) with 19 points.

Dominique Toussaint scored five of her 14 points in the final 1:27, including the go-ahead 3-pointer, and the Cavaliers held the fourth-ranked Seminoles to five points in the fourth quarter in an upset victory in Charlottes­ville, Va.

Ketara Chapel and Teaira McCowan each had 14 points, and the thirdranke­d Bulldogs rallied in the fourth quarter to beat the Lady Bulldogs in Starkville, Miss.

Marina Mabrey scored 24 of her career-high 29 points in the second half to help the No. 7 Fighting Irish hold off the Tigers in Clemson, S.C., for their eighth victory in a row.

INDIANA 72, MICHIGAN 61

Tyra Buss scored 21 points to go with seven steals and three assists as the Hoosiers upended a ranked opponent for the first time this season, beating the No. 20 Wolverines in Bloomingto­n, Ind.
