Whose rep?
Regarding “Town hall angst spreads across Texas” (Page A1, Thursday), I have a simple question: Is John Culberson the worst current member of the U.S. House of Representatives? I don’t know, but he is certainly a contender.
Culberson took office when I was 6 years old. He has been my congressman for nearly my entire life, and I have nothing to show for it.
The only thing Culberson has done is lead a mean-spirited campaign against Metro’s prospective light rail expansion on Richmond Avenue. (The impacted area is not even in his district anymore, yet Culberson keeps on grandstanding.) Most recently, Culberson— an ostensible opponent of socalled “Big Government” — put a rider in a federal transportation funding bill that specifically proscribed federal funds for a light rail line on Richmond Avenue. The petulant behavior even prompted criticism from the actual representative for the area, U.S. Rep. Ted Poe.
I am very happy to see so many of Culberson’s constituents awake to realize that he is interested only in self-preservation and self-aggrandizement, and nothing more.
The 7th Congressional District has made the mistake of electing Culberson now nine times. Hopefully that will be all.
