Gender rules

-

Regarding “Trump rolls back transgender protections,” (Page A1, Thursday), if you ask me, this whole problem arose from one missing word in the proposed rules. That word is “established.” People should be able to use the restroom corresponding to their established gender identity.

What that means is: You shouldn’t be able to just show up one day, dressed as a woman, and expect to walk into the ladies’ restroom. It has to be who you are, and not just a stunt.

Alas, the issue is so emotionally fraught on both sides that I don’t think anyone is willing to hear simple, commonsense fixes like this.
