King’s complete game carries UH to win; Baylor reaches 8-0

CORPUS CHRISTI — Senior John King tossed his first complete game, Landon Etzel drove in a pair of runs, and the University of Houston defeated Texas A&M-Corpus Christi 4-2 on Sunday in the finale of the Kleberg Bank College Classic at Whataburge­r Field.

King, a lefthander, allowed eight hits and zero walks while striking out seven en route to earning his first win of the season.

Jake Scheiner and Lael Lockhart Jr. also had RBIs for the Cougars (5-2).

Brian Deaver went 2-for-4 with a run and an RBI for the Islanders (1-6).

BAYLOR 9 SOUTH ALABAMA 7

Tucker Cascadden and Josh Bissonette each had a pair of RBIs, Richard Cunningham drew three walks, and the Bears held off the Jaguars in Waco to sweep a three-game series and improve to 8-0 for the first time since 1984.

South Alabama’s Adam Wolfe had a monster game in a losing effort, hitting three homers and finishing with five RBIs.

SE LOUISIANA 12, RICE 4

Carson Crites had three RBIs, and the Lions overpowere­d the Owls in the rubber match of the series at Reckling Park.

Charlie Warren drove in three runs for Rice (3-5), which will next face No. 1 TCU on Tuesday night in Fort Worth.

RHODE ISLAND 6 HOUSTON BAPTIST 5

Brett McManus went 3-for-4, Chris Hess and Mike Corin homered, and the Rams rallied from a three-run deficit to beat the Huskies and gain a split of their four-game series at Husky Field.

Brandon Brintz went 2-for-5 and scored twice for HBU (5-3), which has suffered all three of its losses by one run.

TEXAS A&M 10 PEPPERDINE 6

Braden Shewmake went 5-for-5 with a home run and three RBIs, and the Aggies defeated the Waves in College Station. Logan Foster, Joel Davis and Cole Bedford each added two RBIs for Texas A&M (6-1).

JACKSON ST. 11 TEXAS SOUTHERN 1

Lamar Briggs went 3-for-4 with a walk, two runs and two RBIs, and host Jackson State complete a three-game sweep of Texas Southern (0-7).

TCU 5, ARIZONA ST. 2

Austen Wade had two RBIs, and the No. 1 Horned Frogs (6-1) used a three-run seventh inning to rally past the Sun Devils in Fort Worth.

TEXAS 9, CONNECTICU­T 3

Ryan Reynolds homered and drove in two runs, Jake McKenzie allowed just one hit over 42⁄3 innings of scoreless relief pitching, and the Longhorns (5-3) defeated the Huskies to take the rubber match of the series in Austin.
