Rice wins on late 3-pointer; A&M women advance in SEC

HUNTINGTON, W.Va. — Egor Koulechov’s 3-pointer with eight seconds remaining gave Rice an 89-88 victory over Marshall on Thursday night.

Koulechov’s winner came after a bucket by Jon Elmore and a 3-pointer from Stevie Browning gave Marshall a two-point lead with 23 seconds left.

Koulechov, Conference USA’s 3-point percentage leader at 46.4, made 4-of-10 from the arc and grabbed 14 rebounds for his 10th double-double this season. Marcus Evans added 13 points, five assists and three rebounds to become the first player in Rice history to have 500 points, 100 assists and 100 rebounds in a season.

Marcus Jackson added 13 points for the Owls (21-9, 11-6), who have won eight of their last nine and reached 21 wins for first time since winning 22 in 2003-04.

SMU 93, TULSA 70

Semi Ojeleye scored 26 points with a 9-for-9 night from the field, and the No. 14 Mustangs clinched at least a share of the American Athletic Conference title with a win over the Golden Hurricane in Dallas.

All five starters scored in double figures for the Mustangs (26-4, 16-1), who can clinch the league title outright with a win when they finish the regular season at home Saturday against Memphis.

SMU has a one-game lead in the AAC over No. 18 Cincinnati (26-4, 15-2).

LAMAR 87, NICHOLLS ST. 75

Lincoln Davis sank four 3-pointers and had 23 points to lead the Cardinals to a victory over the Colonels in Beaumont and secure a berth in the Southland Conference Tournament. Lamar (17-13, 9-8) reached the conference tournament for the first time since winning the championsh­ip in the 2011-12 season.

Tevin Bellinger scored 23 points, and the host Panthers (12-19, 9-8 Southweste­rn Athletic Conference) beat the Jaguars for their fourth victory in five games.

Dakarai Henderson scored 16 points, Christophe­r Galbreath Jr. added 12 points and 13 rebounds, and the Bearkats (19-11, 10-7 Southland Conference) edged the Cowboys in Huntsville to snap a three-game losing streak.

Women TEXAS A&M 67, FLORIDA 48

Khaalia Hillsman scored 24 points and grabbed 11 rebounds to lift the sixth-seeded Aggies to a win over the 11th-seeded Gators in the second round of the Southeaste­rn Conference tournament in Greenville, S.C.

Texas A&M (20-10) will face third-seeded Missouri in the quarterfin­als Friday night.

Nicole Iademarco scored 25 points, and the Owls (17-11, 8-9 Conference USA) defeated the Thundering Herd at Tudor Fieldhouse.

Joyce Kennerson scored a career-high 30 points to lift the Lady Tigers past the Braves at H&PE Arena. Texas Southern (19-9, 13-4 Southweste­rn Athletic Conference) won its third straight.

Alexus Parker and Tori Carter had 20 points each, and the Lady Panthers beat the visiting Jaguars. Jeronia Allen added 17 points for Prairie View (12-17, 7-10 Southweste­rn Athletic Conference).

Jenniffer Oramas scored 20 points to lead the Bearkats, but the Cowgirls held on to beat Sam Houston State (3-24, 3-14 Southland Conference) in Huntsville.

ACC TOURNAMENT

Myisha Hines-Allen and Asia Durr both scored 17 points, and No. 14 Louisville topped Clemson 68-46 in the second round at Conway, S.C. No. 16 Miami defeated Georgia Tech 87-71, and 21st-ranked Syracuse beat North Carolina 83-64.
