ATRELLE RODEN “CHIPPER” CURTS

Chipper Curts died peacefully on March 3, 2017 at Woodridge Nursing Home. She is preceded in death by her husband of 70 years. Owen Lee Curts, her brothers, James Roden and Robert Roden , her sister Harriet Woehst, and her daughter Cosette Curts. She is survived by her daughters, Carolyn McCravy of Holly Pond, Alabama, Claudia Tagliareni of Houston, six grandchild­ren, 12 great-grandchild­ren, and 9 great-great- grandchild­ren.

Chipper had been an active member and done volunteer work for St. Jerome Catholic Church, the National MS Society, and the San Jacinto Girl Scouts. She was received and loved by all who knew her.

She graduated second in her class from Reagan High School in Houston in 1935 and later, at various times, attended the University of Houston. She worked for many years as a profession­al Girl Scout and later as an apartment manager and was also head gardener at the Inn of the Hills in Kerrville, Texas

She loved, among other things, camping, traveling, reading, cats, ballet, and growing things. She was a positive thinker, tried to make the best of any situation, and always attempted to understand and appreciate other points of view. She earned her name “Chipper” because she was always.

Family will receive friends on Wednesday, March 8, 2017 from 5:00 pm until 7:00 pm at St. Jerome Catholic Church, 8825 Kempwood Drive, Houston, Texas 77080 with a Rosary being recited at 7:00 pm.

Funeral mass will be conducted on Thursday, March 9, 2017 at St. Jerome Catholic Church, 8825 Kempwood Drive, Houston, Texas 77080 with a reception to follow. Family will gather for a private burial.
