Seven Acres offers skilled nursing rehab program
When Carol Goldfarb was hospitalized, she learned that she would need to undergo rehabilitation in a skilled care facility before she could return home. After two weeks in the hospital, she had to make a quick decision where to go for her skilled care.
“There was no question in my mind where I would want to go for rehabilitation,” she said. “I have been a volunteer at Seven Acres for many years and my husband was a resident here when he was ill.”
Through its Lou Lewis Skilled Nursing/Medicare Program, Seven Acres offers post-acute services for those transitioning from hospital to home. This specialized care helps shorten the hospital stay and lays the groundwork for a successful discharge home or to a lower level of care.
The skilled nursing program includes rehabilitation care due to fractures or joint replacements, general wound care, interim medical care following a hospital stay, noninvasive respiratory care, general rehabilitation due to weakness or physical decline, stroke recovery, diabetic rehabilitation and I.V. therapy. Seven Acres offers physical, speech and occupational therapy services with a highly trained staff of licensed therapists and assistants.
Seven Acres is a notfor-profit, non-sectarian, certified and licensed Medicaid, Medicare and private-pay campus for seniors and elder disabled. It is a long-term care facility in Houston with a capacity for 305 residents. Seven Acres is among the few elder care campuses in Houston with a full medical suite, and on-site doctors and nurse practitioners who are on call 24 hours a day, seven days a week. In recent years it has served more than 1,500 individuals who have required skilled nursing services.
Goldfarb has been a member of the Seven Acres Volunteer Auxiliary for 17 years, so she is familiar with the care provided here.
“I came here because I have so much confidence in Seven Acres,” she said.
