A rich year for top 13 in city

Houston’s richest 13 people mostly got richer in 2017 as all but one on Forbes’ annual ranking of the world’s billionair­es saw their wealth rise over the last year.

Richard Kinder kept the top spot among Houston’s richest, No. 194, up from No. 240 last year.

Kinder, who made his fortune in pipelines, saw his net wealth grow 33 percent to $7.1 billion in 2017.

The local billionair­es had an average net worth of $4.1 billion, which is higher than the $3.75 billion average of the 2,043 billionair­es on the Forbes list.

Tilman Fertitta, of the Landry’s restaurant, hotel and gaming empire, saw his wealth slip to $2.9 billion from $3 billion, moving his ranking to No. 693 from No. 569.

After Kinder, the next richest were siblings Dannine Avara, Scott Duncan, Milane Frantz and Randa Williams. Their net

worth rose by $1.6 billion to $5.7 billion in 2017, earning the heirs of Dan Duncan of Enterprise Pipeline Partners the shared ranking of No. 261.

Other billionair­es include: Jeffery Hildebrand, No. 402 with $4.3 billion; Dan Friedkin, No. 522 with $3.6 billion; Robert McNair, No. 544 with $3.5 billion; John Arnold, No 660, with $3 billion; George Bishop, No. 814 with $2.5 billion; Leslie Alexander, No. 1,098 with $1.9 billion; and Fayez Sarofim, No. 1,290 with $1.6 billion.

The magazine also estimated that President Donald Trump’s net worth has fallen from $4.5 billion last year to $3.5 billion today, dropping him from No. 336 last year to No. 544.
