BARBARA ANN MCCONNELL BOWER

Barbara Ann McConnell Bower, age 80, departed on March 22, 2017. She was born the first of three children in Fort Worth Texas, to Russie Franklin-McConnell and Dave McConnell. Her loving brother and sister were John McConnell and Patricia McConnell.

Barbara graduated from Highland Park High School in 1954 and was an active member in Lads & Lassies, and various other musical and theatrical groups. She attended SMU. Barbara married James Martin Bower and had two children: Marc Bower and Catherine Bower.

After her marriage, Barbara volunteere­d with the Briargrove Park swim team and the Dad’s Club YMCA. In the late ‘80s, she began ballroom dancing with USBDA, where she traveled the world and danced with her friends on cruise ships and in multiple competitio­ns. Barbara belonged to the Methodist Church and a spiritual group, where she developed her strongest and deepest lifelong friendship­s. She was well acquainted with Bill W.

Barbara is survived by her two children, Marc and Catherine, and her grandchild­ren, Britney Rozypal, Daylan Bower, Jamuson Bower-Walter, and Kyan Bower-Walter.

Barbara’s most notable accomplish­ment in life was her private adult Care Management business, caring for families during the dying process. Barbara’s knowledge of care management enabled her family to care for her in the way that she hoped and wished for.

She remained grateful and appreciati­ve that she could care for so many people and give back to the community.

To celebrate her full and wonderful life, a memorial will be held on April 1st, at 10:00 am, at Ascension Episcopal Church, 2525 Seagler Rd., Houston, TX. In lieu of flowers, please donate to Ascension Episcopal Church. We’d like to thank Father Todd & Kimberley Bryant. We would also like to thank the staff at Memorial Hermann Memorial City.

Graveside services will be held at Bogota Cemetery at 2:00 pm on April 2nd, in Bogota, TX.
