DeJoria’s ticket a warm-up for qualifying

Alexis DeJoria was pulled over by a state trooper Friday morning on her way to compete in the NHRA SpringNati­onals, but she couldn’t talk her way out of a speeding ticket.

DeJoria said it was her first ticket in years.

Fortunatel­y for DeJoria, there is no speed limit at Royal Purple Raceway and was able to drive her Kalitta Motorsport­s Tequila Patron Toyota Camry to the second qualifying spot after the first Funny Car qualifying session.

In the early session, DeJoria was locked in, riding the middle of the groove. She had a 3.995-second pass at 320.97 mph on a 118-degree track. She didn’t improve on her early time and finished in seventh place after the second
