An inmate at the Harris County jail died shortly after being dropped off by bounty hunters, authorities said.

Adrian Cornell Narcisse, 31, was picked up by the so-called private bail recovery agents after jumping bond on an open family assault case and turned over to the Harris County Sheriff’s Office about 2 p.m. Tuesday, according to Thomas Gilliland, a sheriff ’s spokesman.

He did not appear to have any kind of a medical distress or condition. Shortly after jailers at the processing center took Narcisse’s photo and fingerprints, he had an apparent seizure and was taken to St. Joseph’s Medical Center, officials said.

He was pronounced dead at 3:25 p.m.

Glenda Tanner, the Lexington National Insurance Corporation bail bondswoman listed in court records, was not available for comment Wednesday night. Narcisse’s mother, Tanna Felix, declined to talk to the Chronicle.

Court records show Narcisse had been arrested in October on charges of assaulting his girlfriend.

Records show he been arrested three other times over the last 10 years on domestic violence charges, as well as other theft and drug charges.

The court revoked his bail — set at $10,000 — when he did not show up for court in February, records show.

Texas Commission on Jail Standards Executive Director Brandon Wood said the sheriff ’s office had notified the agency about the incident.

“We’ll review it like any other death in custody,” he said.

Medical examiners have not yet determined a cause of death.

Records from the jail commission show that five other inmates have died in the care of the sheriff ’s office since January.

In February, one inmate committed suicide; the cause of death in the other four cases was not listed.
