TCU stops Texas Tech in top-10 clash; UH downs S. Florida

LUBBOCK —Nick Lodolo allowed a run on four hits in eight innings as No. 4 Texas Christian downed No. 7 Texas Tech 4-1 in a Big 12 Conference series opener Friday night at Rip Griffin Park.

Evan Skoug had three hits and scored twice and Oak Ridge product Luken Baker drove in a run for the Horned Frogs (31-9, 12-4 Big 12).

The Red Raiders (34-12, 9-7) scored on Hunter Hargrove’s sacrifice fly.

HOUSTON 7 SOUTH FLORIDA 3

Connor Wong, Corey Julks and Joe Davis each homered as the No. 20 Cougars topped the Bulls at Tampa, Fla.

Mitch Ullom allowed three runs on six hits in eight innings for Houston (28-13), which leads the American Athletic Conference at 9-4. The Bulls are 32-10 and 7-6.

TEXAS A&M 11-7 MISSOURI 1-1

Braden Shewmake went 4-for-6 and drove in two runs in the opener and 3-for-5 with three RBIs in the nightcap as the No. 19 Aggies swept the host Tigers.

Brigham Hill pitched seven scoreless innings in game one and reliever Kaylor Chafin struck out eight in 42⁄3 innings in the second game for the win.

Texas A&M improved to 31-13 and 12-8 SEC. Missouri is 27-17, 8-12 SEC.

TEXAS 5-7 OKLAHOMA ST. 4-0

Nolan Kingham allowed two runs on three hits in seven innings in the opener and three Longhorns combined on a shutout in game two for a sweep of the Cowboys at Stillwater, Okla.

In the first game Texas (30-16, 9-8 Big 12) fell behind when Cade Cabbiness hit a two-run homer in the second off Kingham.

The Cowboys (23-18, 6-11 Big 12) scored twice in the ninth, but UT’s Beau Ridgeway held on for his 10th save.

Texas starter Morgan Cooper struck out 11 in seven innings in the nightcap.

BAYLOR 5, KANSAS 4

Aaron Dodson’s threerun homer in the second put the Bears ahead to stay in a win over the Jayhawks at Lawrence, Kansas.

Alex Phillips, Kyle Hill and Troy Montemayor combined for 32⁄3 scoreless innings for Baylor (26-16, 7-9 Big 12). Devin Foyle had two hits for Kansas (21-12, 8-8).

UTSA 10, RICE 6

C.J. Pickering’s tworun double keyed a fiverun ninth inning in a win over the Owls at Reckling Park. UTSA is 22-18 and 10-9 in CUSA. Rice fell to 16-26 and 7-12.

GRAMBLING ST. 7-13 TEXAS SOUTHERN 1-3

Marshawn Taylor went a combined 5-for-7 with five RBIs as GSU swept TSU at Grambling, La. GSU improved to 19-25 overall and 12-8 in SWAC. TSU is 15-27 and 13-9.

ARK.-PINE BLUFF 10-4 PRAIRIE VIEW A&M 5-9

Cody Den Beste went a combined 6-for-9 with six RBIs in the two games as the Panthers split two with the Golden Lions.

HOUSTON BAPTIST 4-3 NORTHWESTE­RN ST. 2-9

The Huskies split a doublehead­er with the Demons at Houston as HBU’s Blake Thomas drove in two runs in the opener and the Demons’ Cade Jones hit for the cycle in the nightcap. HBU is 21-17, 13-7 SLC.
