Altidore’s goals add to Orange’s misery on road

-

TORONTO — The Dynamo’s road struggles continued Friday night. And this time, a name familiar to U.S. national team fans did all the damage.

Jozy Altidore scored twice in the first half to lead Toronto FC to a 2-0 victory over the Dynamo at BMO Field.

The Dynamo (4-31) have lost all three of their road games, although this game likely will not leave them thinking they got blown off the field.

Coach Wilmer Cabrera chose a 4-4-2 formation for the second week in a row with the idea of getting numbers behind the ball on defense. It worked well early as the Dynamo controlled possession in the first 15 minutes.

Trailing by two goals early in the second half, Cabrera subbed forward Romell Quioto for midfielder Boniek Garcia, and the Dynamo went back to the 4-3-3 that worked for much of the first six games.

They had the better of the chances after that but never could break through. The Dynamo outshot Toronto 19-10 and had nine corners to Toronto’s two.

Altidore scored his first goal in the 16th minute after some impressive passing in the attacking third. Toronto FC (3-1-4) used three one-touch passes to suck in the Dynamo defense, and Marco Delgado made the last one to Ra- heem Edwards on the left flank.

Edwards, who was offside when Delgado hit his pass, dribbled into the penalty area and crossed it to Altidore a step away from the penalty spot for an easy finish.

It was a sudden turn after the Dynamo had played well through 15 minutes. They dominated possession and created a few opportunities.

Altidore doubled the lead in the 32nd minute when he played a nifty 1-2 to Sebastian Giovinco at the top of the penalty area. Giovinco used the outside of his inside foot to loop a pass over Dynamo defender Leonardo, and then Altidore chested the ball down to his feet and then finished.
