Audrey Lewis Edwards was born on June 11, 1930 to Elizabeth and Henry C. Nichols, Sr. in Houston, Texas. She was a member of Wheeler Avenue Baptist Church and a previous member of Greater Mount Olive Baptist Church.

Audrey was educated in the schools of HISD. She graduated from Phillis Wheatley High School. She later attended Texas Southern University and graduated with a Master’s degree in English.

Audrey was a teacher for 34 years in HISD working several years at Pleasantvi­lle Elementary and later retiring from Hartsfield Elementary in 1991.

Audrey married Lionel C Lewis, Sr. (deceased) and to this union two children, Lionel C. Lewis Jr. and Ardette Lewis Fulton were born. On July 22, 1977 she married Chester Edwards and they would be married for nearly 40 years.

Audrey was preceded in death by her Parents, Elizabeth and Henry C. Nichols, Sr.; her brother Henry C. Nichols, Jr. and her sister Snora Gooden. Left to cherish her memory are her sister Esther Wallace and brothers Richard L Nichols, Sr., Albert J Nichols and Frank Burley and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins and other relatives and friends.

Audrey was a member of Zeta Phi Beta Sorority, Incorporat­ed, Top Ladies of Distinctio­n and HoustonHar­ris County Retired Teachers Associatio­n.

Visitation will be held (Wednesday) May 10, 2017 from 10-10:55 a.m. with funeral at 11:00 a.m., both services will be held at Wheeler Avenue Baptist Church, 3826 Wheeler Avenue, Pastor Marcus D. Cosby, Officiatin­g, Interment Houston National Cemetery.
