Phillies, Nationals split
WASHINGTON — Nationals ace Max Scherzer endured through a scary line drive to grind out six innings, Michael Taylor hit a go-ahead two-run homer in the eighth and Washington overcame another erratic bullpen outing to earn a 6-5 win and a doubleheader split against the Philadelphia Phillies on Sunday night.
Bryce Harper went 3-for-4 with an RBI double in Game 2. He also belted his 12th home run in Game 1, but Philadelphia won the opener of the day-night affair 4-3 after Washington’s third blown save in six games.
RANGERS 6, ATHLETICS 4: Nomar Mazara had the go-ahead hit for the second game in a row and host Texas extended its winning streak to a majors-best six in a row.
BLUE JAYS 3, MARINERS 2: Kevin Pillar homered with two outs in the ninth inning to give Toronto a sweep of their four-game home series.
PIRATES 6, DIAMONDBACKS 4: Jose Osuna hit a tworun homer with two outs in the 10th inning and Tony Watson escaped a late bases-loaded jam to lift visiting Pittsburgh.
BREWERS 11, METS 9: Manny Pina hit a three-run homer with two outs in the bottom of the eighth inning, capping host Milwaukee’s comeback from a six-run deficit.
WHITE SOX 9, PADRES 3: Pinch hitter Melky Cabrera had a key two-run single in host Chicago’s eight-run eighth inning when San Diego relievers faced 14 batters.
MARLINS 3, BRAVES 1: Pinch hitter Tyler Moore hit a three-run homer in the seventh inning to spoil a shutout bid by R.A. Dickey as host Miami broke a five-game losing streak.
INDIANS 8, TWINS 3: Jason Kipnis, moved to the leadoff spot for the first time this season, was 4-for-5 with two homers and four RBIs for host Cleveland.
ANGELS 4, TIGERS 1: Mike Trout homered in his third straight game and Alex Meyer pitched three-hit ball into the seventh inning for host Los Angeles.
CARDINALS 5, CUBS 0: Yadier Molina homered twice and Adam Wainwright had seven shutout innings to lift host St. Louis to the win.
ROCKIES 9, DODGERS 6: Pat Valaika homered twice, and Antonio Senzatela got the win for host Colorado.
ROYALS 9, ORIOLES 8: Mike Moustakas homered and had four RBIs to help host Kansas City rally from five runs down.
RAYS 11, RED SOX 2: Steven Souza Jr. hit a three-run homer and Jesus Sucre drove in three runs for visiting Tampa Bay.
GIANTS 8, REDS 3: Brandon Belt homered again, and host San Francisco posted its first three-game winning streak.
