JAMES WILSON HAMMOND

1951-2017

-

I always said Jim had angels perched on his shoulders watching over him. On Wednesday, May 10, 2017 James Wilson Hammond followed his angels up to heaven to be with our Lord.

Jim was born December 5, 1951 to Anna Brockman Hammond and Woodrow Wilson Hammond in Port Arthur, Texas. He graduated from Lamar University where he was on the track team and was a member of Pi Kappa Alpha.

Jim and his wife Donna Hale Hammond were married for 34 years. They have one son, Jason who is currently in the US Army stationed in Ft. Stewart, Georgia.

Jim was a loving husband and father, and first and foremost, he took care of Donna and Jason. Jason was Jim’s whole universe. Together they lived for baseball. Jim was his little league coach and treasurer for Sugar Land Little League for many years. They traveled all over playing in tournaments for his select baseball teams. While Jason played for the Kempner High School baseball team, Jim was President of the Athletic Booster Club. They were big fans and season ticket holders of the Astros.

Jim was extremely active in all of his charitable organizations. He was a lifetime member of the Houston Livestock Show and Rodeo, was a member of the Corral Club Committee, then the Lamb Committee, and School Art Committee. He was a founding member of the Stock and Stolen Bar be que team and a member of the Damnifino Bar be que team. He was a Lifetime Director of the Houston Farm and Ranch Club. Jim was also a member of the Exchange Club of Houston where he was treasurer for a number of years.

Jim was a CPA and served as Director of Global Oil and Gas at Ernst and Young traveling to Russia, Australia, all over Europe and all over South America. Every so often Donna and Jason were fortunate enough to travel to Europe with him.

Jim is survived by his wife Donna, his son Jason, brothers Raymond and wife Sandra Hammond, Phillip and wife Lisa Hammond, and sister Lyndell and husband Russ Voit as well as many nieces and nephews. He is preceded in death by his mother and father, brothers Cliff and Paul Hammond.

A memorial service will be held at St Theresa Catholic Church, 705 St. Theresa Blvd, Sugar Land on Monday May 22, 2017 at 12:00 noon.
