UT’s bright idea
Regarding “Support McRaven” (Page A18, Wednesday), as for the so-called treacherous political waters of this state, perhaps the editorial board could expound a bit on UT System Chancellor William McRaven’s diabolical scheme to subvert the Texas Constitution and bypass legislative oversight when using public funds to make land purchases of this magnitude. Of course, as the rest of us have come to understand, laws and rules simply do not apply to the University of Texas.
By the way, just another inconvenient truth: There was NO plan for a “Data Science Center” when this project was being promoted. That bright idea, which actually has merit, conveniently emerged after the old sailor was sent back to Austin. Michael Martin, Houston
