Scherzer has 13 Ks as Nats win
WASHINGTON — Max Scherzer allowed three hits over 82⁄3 innings, Bryce Harper and Michael A. Taylor hit tworun homers, and the Washington Nationals defeated the San Diego Padres 5-1 on Friday night.
Trea Turner added a solo homer and a double for Washington.
Scherzer struck out a season-high 13. He allowed a single to Austin Hodges in the second, Ryan Schimpf’s solo homer in the fourth, and Allen Cordoba’s single in the ninth, throwing 108 pitches, 81 for strikes.

RED SOX 3, MARINERS 0: Eduardo Rodriguez pitched six scoreless innings, and host Boston beat Seattle to earn its season-high fifth consecutive victory.
METS 8, PIRATES 1: Neil Walker homered twice in his return to his hometown, Jacob deGrom gave New York’s bullpen a needed rest, and the Mets beat host Pittsburgh.
MARLINS 8, ANGELS 5: Giancarlo Stanton homered off the retaining wall behind the center field fence, a shot estimated at 460 feet, and host Miami beat Los Angeles.
