BOSTON RED SOX
INF Marco Hernandez will be out the rest of the season after having surgery on his left shoulder.
The team said the surgery was performed Friday by Dr. Tom Holovacs in Boston. Hernandez was put on the disabled list May 4 with a left shoulder misalignment.
CHICAGO WHITE SOX
Starting pitcher James Shields said he is just about ready to go on a rehab assignment.
The 35-year-old RHP threw about a 30-pitch bullpen session for the second time in three days on Friday. He plans to throw again Monday, then make one or two rehab starts before returning from the disabled list.
Shields has been sidelined since April 16 by a strained right back muscle. Shields is 1-0 with a 1.62 ERA in three starts.
CINCINNATI REDS
Injured RHP Anthony DeSclafani has been throwing lightly, but he still isn’t close to returning from a sprained elbow ligament.
NEW YORK YANKEES
After resting his arm for two weeks, closer Aroldis Chapman has been cleared to start playing catch. The 29-yearold LHP has not thrown in a game since May 13 because of tendinitis and bursitis in his pitching shoulder.
SAN DIEGO PADRES
OF Manuel Margot, who left Wednesday’s game against the New York Mets with right calf soreness, was in a walking boot Friday.
Padres manager Andy Green said the boot is a precaution for now but noted it’s “becoming increasingly likely that it’s a DL stint.”
TORONTO BLUE JAYS
3B Josh Donaldson and SS Troy Tulowitzki were activated off the DL.
The Toronto stars were both in the starting lineup Friday against Texas.
Donaldson, the 2015 AL MVP, was sidelined since April 13 because of a sore right calf. Tulowitzki was out since April 21 with a sore right hamstring.
