Texas Tech ousted at Big 12; TCU advances

OKLAHOMA CITY — Jackson Cramer’s threerun double highlighte­d a six-run 10th inning as West Virginia rallied to oust top-seeded Texas Tech from the Big 12 conference rournament with a 12-7 win Friday.

The win advances the Mountainee­rs (34-23) to a Saturday matchup with Oklahoma State, while the top-seeded Red Raiders (43-15) now await their NCAA Tournament destinatio­n.

West Virginia trailed 6-4 entering the ninth inning, but Cramer — who was 2-for-5 with five RBIs — singled to right and two runs scored for the Mountainee­rs, aided by an error on the play by Texas Tech.

With West Virginia up 8-6 in the top of the 10th, Cramer then put the game out of reach with his double to right field.

Brian Howard struck out 12 and issued zero walks while tossing a four-hitter, Nolan Brown and Ryan Merrill each drove in a pair of runs, and the second-seeded Horned Frogs blanked the Jayhawks in an eliminatio­n game.

TCU (41-15) moves on to face Texas (36-20) at 12:30 p.m. Saturday, needing to win twice to reach Sunday’s title game.

Chris Williams took a no-hitter into the seventh inning, and Kam Gellinger went 3-for-4 at the plate as top-seeded Central Florida routed South Florida 12-0 in an eliminatio­n game of the American Athletic Conference tournament in Clearwater, Fla.

UCF (40-19) advances to the semifinal round and will face No. 8 seed East Carolina on Saturday afternoon, needing two victories against the Pirates to reach Sunday’s final.

Meanwhile, No. 3 seed Connecticu­t reached the semifinal round with a 7-5 win against Memphis. The Huskies will face the University of Houston at 9 a.m. Saturday and would need two wins against the Cougars to advance to Sunday’s final.

Jake Miednik tossed 71⁄3 innings of one-hit, shutout ball as third-seeded Florida Atlantic stayed alive in the Conference USA tournament with a 6-2 victory over secondseed­eded Old Dominion in Biloxi, Miss.

The win sends FAU (35-20-1) into Saturday’s 9 a.m. semifinal against sixth-seeded Rice (29-29). FAU would have to beat Rice twice to advance to Sunday’s title game.

Top-seeded Southern Miss defeated UTSA 7-1 to advance to a semifinal against Charlotte at 12:30 p.m. Saturday. Southern Miss needs to defeat Charlotte twice to advance to the championsh­ip game.
