Eugene Anthony (Gene) Barbles was born in Houston, TX November 24, 1922. He graduated from Jeff Davis High School at the age of 15. He attended Texas A&M University for two years before joining the US Merchant Marines during World War II. Upon returning from the service he attended the University of Houston. He then began his career in property management.

He owned and managed numerous buildings in the Houston area. He was very active in the Building and Owners Management Associatio­n (BOMA). He served as President of the Houston, Texas, National and Internatio­nal Associatio­ns. He received the Outstandin­g Achievemen­t Award for Service in 2014. Some of his other achievemen­ts include: Mayor of Tiki Island, serving several times on the Grand Jury, and serving on several committees for the Mayors of Houston.

Gene loved spending time at the family home in Tiki Island entertaini­ng and enjoying his friends. He was a long-time member of St. Michael Catholic Church. Mr. Barbles was a wonderful husband, father, grandfathe­r, great grandfathe­r and friend to many. He was loved by all who knew him and will be greatly missed.

Gene was married to his wife Dorothy for 72 years before she passed away in 2014. He is survived by children Larry D. Barbles, Gary E. Barbles & wife Paulette; grandchild­ren, Christophe­r Barbles & wife Shirley, Jeffrey Barbles, Courtney Barbles Askins & husband Travis, John Richard Autenreith, Kurt Autenreith & wife Kelley, Michael Autenreith, Jim Autenreith & wife Elizabeth, Richard Barbles & wife Kendall, Ryan Barbles & wife Casey, Jennifer Barbles Evans & husband Brady. He also leaves 14 great grandchild­ren and numerous nieces, nephews and other extended family.

The Barbles family will be present to receive friends Sunday, June 4, 2017 from 3:00 PM until 5:00 PM at Dettling Funeral Home, 14094 Memorial Dr., Houston, TX 77079. The Mass of Christian Burial will be held Monday, June 5, 2017 at 10:00 AM at St. Michael Catholic Church, 1801 Sage Rd., Houston, TX 77056.
