10 BEST TELEVISED SPORTING EVENTS
The top sports events to watch on TV this weekend.
ASTROS AT RANGERS
When: 7:05 p.m. Friday
TV: Root This doesn’t appear to be as crucial a series as it did a couple of weeks ago, but it’s early. Dallas Keuchel is scheduled to start for the Astros in the opener. Lance McCullers is slated to start at 6:15 p.m. Saturday on Fox. Game 3 is back on Root at 2:05 p.m Sunday.
Cavaliers at Warriors
When: 7 p.m. Sunday, TV: ABC After a long layoff, the NBA finalists met Thursday night in Game 1 at Golden State, which ended too late for this edition. This will be Game 2 as the teams meet in the best-of-seven championship series for the third consecutive season.
Iowa vs. Houston
When: 7 p.m. Friday, TV: ESPNU The Cougars open the college baseball regionals in the second game Friday at Schroeder Park. Texas A&M and Baylor meet in the first game on ESPN2 at 2 p.m. Other games throughout the weekend also can be found on ESPN2 or ESPNU.
Women’s College World Series
When: Friday-Wednesday TV: ESPN, ESPN2, ESPNU Eight teams advanced to the softball championship tournament, which began Thursday in Oklahoma City. There are three teams from the SEC (Texas A&M, LSU, Florida), three from the Pac-12 (UCLA, Oregon, Washington) and two from the Big 12 (Baylor, Oklahoma).
Penguins at Predators
When: 7 p.m. Saturday TV: NBCSN While Pittsburgh has a 2-0 lead in a quest for its fifth Stanley Cup title, including its second consecutive, Nashville will be playing its first game at home in the Final in team history in front of a frenzied crowd.
Cardinals at Cubs
When: 6:35 p.m. Sunday TV: ESPN Chicago was hoping to build off its momentum from last season’s World Series title and dominate the National League out of the gate. It hasn’t happened yet. Both teams have struggled recently, but that won’t take any heat away from this rivalry.
French Open
When: 11 a.m. Sunday TV: NBC How the tournament might play out begins to take shape with the start of the round of 16. Third-round play Saturday also will be televised by NBC from 11 a.m.2 p.m.
Memorial Tournament
When: Friday-Sunday TV: Golf Channel (Friday), CBS (Saturday, Sunday) This is one of the more popular tournaments among players on the PGA Tour because it’s hosted by Jack Nicklaus. William McGirt recorded his only tour victory last year at Muirfield Village in Dublin, Ohio.
AAA 400 Drive for Autism
When: Noon Sunday TV: FS1 NASCAR’s Monster Energy Cup series continues with the race at Dover, Del. Matt Kenseth is defending champion.
Dynamo at Sounders
10 When: 9 p.m. Sunday TV: KUBE The Dynamo finally scored a road point with a scoreless tie at Dallas last Sunday. In their second match of the week after beating Real Salt Lake 5-1 at home on Wednesday, they’ll face a tougher road test against defending MLS champion Seattle.
