Some Tiger comparisons are unfair

- JEROME SOLOMON

Tiger Woods was such an amazing golfer that he turned people who knew absolutely nothing about the sport into golf fans.

His brilliance, though, created a standard that was almost impossible to maintain. If anyone could have, it would have been Tiger. Until his body broke down. But you won’t see much mention of that in “The Rise and Fall of Tiger Woods” … coming to a Web link near you. Especially in the aftermath of Monday’s arrest.

I even saw where someone compared Woods’ rise and fall to O.J. Simpson and John Daly.

While Woods’ arrest for suspicion of driving under the influence is almost certainly a permanent mark that will forever taint his legacy — with a sad, sickly madefor-meme mugshot to boot — he is hardly an O.J. or a Daly.

Fortunately, he didn’t hurt anyone, which, guilt or innocence aside, is the most important aspect of Monday’s news.

How Woods deals with this latest alleged mistake in judgment will be interesting.

His good friend and former Stanford teammate Notah Begay handled a DWI with an honesty that few choose, and almost no one would recommend.

Daly, an admitted alcoholic, continues to drink and joke about drinking, much to the delight of his fans and some media.

Woods might not go full Begay, but rest assured, he will set a better example than Daly.

No doubt, this is a low point for Woods. But O.J.? Daly? Come on.

Woods has done far more good in the world than Simpson and Daly ever imagined, ever would, or will ever be capable of.

Looking for a statistic that tops Wood’s 14 major victories, or Simpson’s 2,000-yard season? Woods’ TGR Learning Lab has served more than 150,000 students. He will continue to make a difference in many young lives.

As for his golf fall, only those who have not paid attention blame his golf slide from the top of the world rank anything ings on other than injuries.

But Woods will never be the golfer he was, because his body will never be what it

once was.
