JOHN H. MARSHALL

1932-2017

John Henry Marshall, age 84, peacefully transition­ed on June 2, 2017. Born in Beaumont, TX on Dec 26, 1932 to Henry and Lula Marshall. John attended South Park High School where he played basketball and football. He continued playing basketball and took up softball and coaching at Lamar University until he graduated with a BS in Accounting in 1954. He was drafted into the U. S. Army Reserve in Oct 1954. In 1956, John and Jacquelyn (nee McNett) were married in San Antonio. John was number one on the Dean’s list when he received his Bachelor of Laws LLB from St. Mary’s Law School in 1957. In 1958, he received his Masters of Laws in Taxation LLM from NYU. John had a long and distinguis­hed career in Houston as Probate & Taxation Attorney until he retired in 2011.

He was an avid Gulf Coast Fisherman and South Texas Hunter. He will be affectiona­tely remembered as a larger-than-life Texan who did things in a BIG way (known as the “WOW!”), for his story telling and many expression­s like “If you find a better deal, take it.” He will also be remembered for his generosity and his love and care for family.

John is preceded in death by his parents, his brother Bobby Marshall, his sisters Betty Stringer and Peggy Marshall and his son Kendall Marshall.

He survived by Jacquelyn, his loving wife of 60 years, daughter Caran Wysong and husband David, daughter Dione Marshall Pevehouse and husband Robert, son, Jeff Marshall, brother Don Marshall and wife Ann as well as numerous nieces, nephews and beloved grandchild­ren, Jason Wysong and Elizabeth Marshall.

A celebratio­n of life will be held at Bear Creek Community Center at 2:00 p.m. on Sat. June 10, 2017. To honor his wishes, his ashes will be scattered at the North Jetties. In lieu of flowers please, go fishing or share some “WOW” with someone you love.
