Coach Wilmer Cabrera says team can’t use bad call as excuse for tie at L.A.

According to coach, late goal resulting in tie with L.A. is ‘on us’

In live action and again on video replay, it was painfully obvious to the Dynamo on Saturday that their dropped points could have been retained if the linesman correctly raised his flag on the play that resulted in the game’s final goal.

Instead, he left it at his side, and an equalizer by the LA Galaxy in the fourth minute of added time was allowed to stand.

If that situation occurs after the MLS All-Star Game in August, it will be reviewed by the Video Assistant Referee. The replay system already is in use at the international level. Goals by Mexico and Chile in separate Confederations Cup games Sunday were disallowed when VAR confirmed the goal scorer was offside.

None of that mattered Saturday night when the Dynamo left StubHub Center with a 2-2 draw and the bitter taste of a result

they felt was taken from them.

Coach Wilmer Cabrera, however, said the linesman is not to blame. “It’s on us,” he said.

“We’re upset because we lost two points today,” Cabrera said. “We cannot give the responsibility to the linesman or the referees to put six minutes into a game that cannot go six minutes in overtime.

“We have to be able to play 96, 97, 110. If there is someone to blame, it is ourselves, because we need to know that it is going to be more difficult for us wherever we go. We cannot make one mistake. We made two mistakes, and we got punished.”

The Dynamo were punished a lot through their first seven road games, losing six. When Alberth Elis scored a go-ahead goal in the 77th minute Saturday, the Dynamo were in position for their first win away from home.

Ultimately, they conceded a second goal for the sixth time in eight road games. Cabrera said it would not have gotten to that point if the Dynamo had controlled the last five minutes.

“We cannot lose the ball coming out of a play and give them the opportunity to win a goal that’s offside,” he said. “Yes, it’s offside. But it’s already marked in the books, and there’s nothing that can be done now.”
