Judge puts after-hours club to bed

Insomnia Lounge might be getting some sleep after a Harris County judge this week shuttered the unlicensed after-hours bar.

According to the Harris County Attorney’s Office, the Brays Oaks club advertises late-night hours online, boasting about bar hours between 2 a.m. and 6 a.m., which is illegal in Texas.

To verify the club’s social media claims, undercover vice officers visited the hot spot in May and bought booze at 3 a.m.

The place was packed with more than 150 partying patrons, all of whom were given the boot. Both bartenders and the on-duty manager were arrested.

The all-night club, located at 9301 Bissonnet, was hit with a nuisance abatement suit and a temporary restraining order.

In court documents, the county described the sleep challenged club as “notorious for criminal activity and violence,” noting that police had repeatedly been summoned to the spot for violent assaults and other crimes often sparked by clubgoers’ after-hours boozy behavior.

The temporary restraining order mandates the club stay closed until management can get a valid liquor license — but if the watering hole re-opens, the order requires two uniformed officers on duty inside and two outside to insure no additional nuisances are created. A hearing is slated for June 23.

The club’s owner could not immediately be reached for comment.
